Wagner, SD resident taken prisoner of war on May 6, 1942 on the Island of Corregidor, during World War II. He was held at Cabanatuan, near Manila in the Philippines, where he wrote the diary in this collection. He was killed January 9, 1945 when the Japanese freighter he was aboard was bombarded by American planes.
