San Francisco business and civic leader; University of California Regent. Born in Germany and settled in San Francisco in 1862. Partner in Nathan, Dohrmann & Co. (specializing in sale of fine crockery and crystal). President of Dohrmann Commercial Co., and was instrumental in the Emporium & Golden Rule Bazaar merger (1897). President of the Emporium, California's first department store.
