Dr. Harold Hirsh holds both M.D. and J.D. degrees, and was formerly a member of the GW faculty. Through the generosity of he and his wife Jane, GW created the Hirsh Health Law and Policy Program. The Hirsh Program, operating within the Department of Health Policy, is the portal through which law degree candidates and lawyers enter the health law and policy pursuits of the School of Public Health and Health Services. These pursuits focus on topics such as health policy, the health care system and industry, environmental and occupational health, international health, and prevention and community health. The program's emphasis is on individualized course planning and career guidance with students is a hallmark of the program. This note was written in 2005.
