Graduated from M St., (later renamed Dunbar High School) and began college program at Howard University. -
1914:
Received BA degree from Howard University. Joined faculty of Walden University In Nashville, TN. -
1915 -1918 :Attended and received both A.B. and A.M. degrees and began research on her Ph.D. degree from Radcliffe College in Boston, MA. -
1920:
Appointed teacher of English at Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C. -
1921:
Awarded Ph.D. degree by Radcliffe College. She was the first Black woman to finish the requirements for a Ph.D degree. -
1929 -1944 :Served as Professor of English at Howard University. -
1944 Sept.:
Joined faculty of Oakwood College in Huntsville, AL as chairperson of the English Department. -
1967:
Retired. -
1970:
Called from retirement to resume teaching career at Oakwood College. -

Dedication ceremony was held for the Eva B. Dykes Library at Oakwood College. -
