Born in Union County, Ind., Elizabeth H. Rile attended Miami University and in 1937 married Harold B. Kelley. The Kelleys co-owned a record store in Richmond, Ind. In 1943 Kelley organized the Reader's Expression Guild, a study club for African-American women. She also wrote newspaper and magazine articles.
