Florence Gertrude Page was born circa 1868 in Brockport, New York. Her father, William Page, was a former slave from Florida and the first African American to graduate from the University of Rochester in New York. Gertrude Page attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. and befriended the Frederick Douglass family. After returning to Brockport, New York, Page established a dressmaking shop. She died on October 19, 1962 in Brockport.
