The Cuyahoga Community College Greater Cleveland Community Studies and Oral History Center was established in the late 1980s to study and preserve the history of Cleveland, Ohio. The Center formed under the leadership of Edward Miggins, a history professor at Tri-C who was previously involved in the Cleveland Public Library's Cleveland Heritage Program and the Greater Cleveland Ethnographic Museum. The Center conducted two oral history projects and produced a film under Miggins' leadership.

The first oral history project, the New Immigrant Study, collected the experiences of people who had recently immigrated to Cleveland. As well as interviewing people from other countries, the project also sought to document the experiences of those who had moved to Cleveland from other parts of the United States. The second oral history project, the Aging and Ethnicity Study, detailed the experiences of the elderly in Cleveland's various ethnic communities. The film, Journey to a Dream: From Ellis Island to Cleveland, was produced in 1992 in honor of the 100th anniversary of Ellis Island. It aired several times locally on Cleveland's PBS affiliate television station WVIZ.
