Leonard Larsen was born in Buffalo, New York, on February 15, 1922. Larsen and Helen Brader were married prior to his enlistment in the United States Army on October 29, 1942. Soon after enlistment, Larsen was assigned to Company C, 425th Ambulance Motor Battalion, which was later changed to Company C, 563rd Ambulance Motor Battalion. His wife discovered she was pregnant with their son, Kurt, soon after his enlistment. Larsen's training occurred at Camp Robinson, a basic training facility ocated outside of North Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas. Camp Robinson was previously known as Camp Pike, but the facility was renamed in 1937 in honor of Senator Joseph T. Robinson. Larsen trained as a medic at Camp Robinson from February through November 1943. He served in five European campaigns before his discharge in 1946. He returned to Buffalo, where he reunited with his wife and met his son for the first time. Larsen died April 5, 1999.
