Hinsdale Lutheran traces its beginnings to Zion Evangelical Lutheran of the Genevieve Community, which began in 1914. The congregation was first served by Rev. T. L. Rosholt, who also served 10 other churches in the area. The last services to be held in the Genevieve Community were in 1938.
Because of the drought in the 1930s, farmers moved from Genevieve to the Hinsdale area and members of Zion came there. Services were held in Hinsdale as early as 1917, and the congregation was officially organized in June of 1930.
Services in Hinsdale and Genevieve were held in many different buildings. A country schoolhouse was purchased and moved to town in the 1930s to serve as a house of worship. For years there had been discussion of a new building, and that finally came to pass in 1952 with the beginning of the present church. On Palm Sunday, April 11, 1954, the present building, together with a new organ, was dedicated. Hinsdale and Saco are sister churches sharing the same pastor.
