Society formed in Concord, Mass., "to discountenance and suppress the too free use of ardent spirits and its kindred vices, profaneness, gaming, and idleness, and to encourage and promote temperance, industry, the due observation of the sabbath, and general morality." The Society was auxiliary to the Massachusetts society established toward the same ends.
