Hide Profile

Bedford Lemere & Co was the leading architectural photographer of its age. The business was established by Bedford Lemere (1839-1911), but his son Henry (Harry) Bedford Lemere (1865-1944) was the driving force during the most productive years of its existence. Thousands of his photographs of commercial and domestic buildings and interiors of passenger ships from the late Victorian and Edwardian periods are preserved in archives, most significantly at the National Monuments Record, English Heritage.

Harry Bedford Lemere was born in London on August 8, 1865 [also reported as 1864]. He eventually took over his father's business. He was a well-known architectural photographer in his time, and his work often appeared in Country Life magazine. He was a member of the Photographic Society (later The Royal Photographic Society) and president of Professional Photographers Association. He died in his office on September 5, 1944. (His obituary appeared in the London Times on September 8, 1944.).

Daniel Cottier, a British stained glass artist and interior decorator, opened "Cottier and Co., Art Furniture Makers, Glass and Tile Painters" in London in 1869. He supplied aesthetic furnishings in the most fashionable styles. He painted allegorical figures in the Pre-Raphaelite style, inspired Louis Comfort Tiffany, and has been credited with introducing the Aesthetic Movement to America and Australia.
