Thomas John Jehu was born on 19 February 1871 at Brynavon, Llanfair Caerenion, in Montgomeryshire. He was educated at the High School, Oswestry, and then studied at Edinburgh University, St. John's College, Cambridge. At Edinburgh he followed Medicine and Science taking the degrees of M.B. and C.M. in 1893 and the degree of B.Sc. in 1894, and at Cambridge he took Natural Science and Moral Science. In 1903, Jehu became a Lecturer in Geology at St. Andrews University, and in 1914 he was appointed Professor of Geology and Mineralogy at Edinburgh University. Latterly he had been Regius Professor. Professor Thomas John Jehu died on 18 July 1943.
