Davis, Billy, 1838-1922
Variant namesBilly (William) Davis, a native of Hopewell, Johnson County, Ind., served during the Civil War with the 7th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He fought at Kernstown, Port Republic, Second Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. In 1913 Davis began writing a journal of his war experiences based on his diary and the letters of other soldiers. He completed the journal only through May, 1863, before his death. In 1989 the journal was edited and published only through June 1862 by Richard S. Skidmore.
