Lindley Murray, Quaker author and grammarian, was born in 1745 in Pennsylvania, the son of Robert and Mary Murray. He married Hannah Dobson in 1767. He moved to England and resided in York for many years while publishing grammar books and religious tracts. He died in 1826.
