Finnish Worker's Society "Kehitys" Archive (Cloquet, Minn.)

Hide Profile

The Finnish Workers' Society "Kehitys" of Cloquet, Minn., was founded in 1903 as the "Edistys (Progress)" Workers Association. In 1906 it joined the Socialist Party and the Finnish Federation of the Socialist Party (United States). It also changed its name to "Kehitysseura (Educational Society). During the 1914 socialist-industrial unionist schism the group withdrew from all national organizations and became an independent workers' society. Although both factions participated in its activities, and although industrial unioinists appear to have been in the majority, the group never formally joined the IWW.
