Charles Erskine Scott Wood was a well-known poet, writer, and critic.
After serving as a soldier in the western U.S., Wood settled in Portland, becoming a lawyer and a prominent figure in the city's cultural life. He was a frequent contributor to the Pacific Monthly, among other publications, and is best known for his book The poet in the desert. Although married, he had a long relationship with poet Sara Bard Field Ehrgott. In later life he lived in Los Gatos, California.
