Norman Rockwell was among the most popular and successful American artists of the 20th century. His signature style of representational realism, used to express themes of traditional American values, was easily recognized and widely accessible. His numerous paintings and illustrations grace books, calendars, catalogs, stamps, playing cards, and murals, but he is perhaps best know for his 332 Saturday Evening Post covers, and for the patriotic World War II paintings known as the Four Freedoms.
