Stuart W. Conner is a graduate of the University of Montana School of Law (1949) and worked as a lawyer in private practice in Billings, Montana, from 1955-1986. He served on the board of the Montana Historical Society from 1987-1993, including two years as its president. Stuart is a founding member of the Montana Archaeological Society, helped to establish the journal "Archaeology in Montana," and has authored numerous site surveys and articles. In 2002 he received an honorary doctorate of letters in Anthropology from Montana State University in Bozeman. In 2011 he received the Montana State Preservation Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Archaeology in recognition of his dedication to recording and preserving archaeological artifacts and sites.
