Minton, Clifford E., 1911-
Variant namesDirector of the Industrial Relations Department of the Urban League of Cleveland following World War II. Minton helped to integrate the white collar work force at such companies as Ohio Bell Telephone and the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, as well as department stores, bakeries and delivery services. Minton left Cleveland in 1949 and became executive director of the Urban League of Gary, Indiana.

Clifford E. Minton (b. 1911) was born in Des Arc, Arkansas, and was educated at Philander Smith College, Fisk University, American University, and Western Reserve University. Before coming to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1946 to join the staff of the Urban League, Minton held positions with the League's Little Rock organization and had also worked for the American Red Cross during World War II. In Cleveland Minton headed the Industrial Department of the Urban League, where he worked to open up job opportunities for African Americans in previously all white fields. Through the Industrial Department's efforts, white collar jobs with the Ohio Bell Telephone Company and Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company were opened to African Americans. Minton and his staff were also successful in integrating department store retail sales and bakery sales and delivery routes. In 1949 Minton left Cleveland to assume the Executive Directorship of the Urban League of Gary, Indiana.
