Jerald T. Milanich received his Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate in Anthropology at the University of Florida (BA 1967, MA 1968, Ph.D. 1971). He continued his work at the University of Florida as an associate professor in 1972 and continues to the present as an adjunct professor for the department of Anthropology. Dr. Milanich is married to Dr. Maxine Margolis, also employed as an Anthropology professor at the University of Florida. Dr. Milanich currently serves as the curator of the Florida Museum of Natural History and has since 1981. His varied research interests include Eastern United States archaeology; Southeastern U.S. native peoples; and Colonial period European-aboriginal relations in the New World. Milanich produced or edited over fourteen books and one hundred articles on such topics as these. He was on the United States De Soto Trail Commission from 1992-1996. In fact, much of this collection deals with his research on the De Soto Trail before working on the Commission.
