Altrusa is a service organization for executive and professional women in diversified careers. Only one representative of a specific business or profession is invited to membership. Founded in Nashville, Tennessee in 1917, Altrusa is the oldest women's classified service club, and now has thirteen districts; District Ten includes New Mexico local clubs. The Las Cruces club was formed in 1940.
