Alexander Ernest Glen was born c1898 in Partick, Glasgow, Scotland. He matriculated into the science faculty at the University of Glasgow in 1918 . In his first year he studied Natural Philosophy, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics Lab. His second year consisted of Mathematics, Engineering, and Engineering Lab. In his third year he studied Natural Philosophy, Electrical Engineering, Engineering, Lab, and Drawing. His final year studies were in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Drawing. He graduated BSc in Engineering in 1922 .
