Corporal George R. Nugent enlisted in Company A, 47th U.S. Volunteer Infantry Regiment on 16 September 1899 in Baltimore. On 4 Nov 1899, his regiment set sail for the Philippine Islands (PI) on the U.S. Army Transport Thomas of the Philippine Service. His unit was stationed at Donsol, PI until 28 April 1900 when they returned to Manila.
