Hough, Mary Paul Hallowell, 1858-1941

Mary Paul Hallowell Hough, M.D. (1858-1951), was a medical doctor and author who resided in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. A member of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), Hough attended the Friends school at Horsham and graduated from Swarthmore College in 1878. She received her medical degree from The Women's Medical College of Philadelphia in 1881. Hough published books on local history and genealogy which include Early History of Ambler, 1682-1888 and The Hallowell-Paul Family History; Including the Ancestry of the Related Families of Worth, Lukens, Jarrett, Morris, Scull, Stokes, Heath, and Others . She was married to Charles B. Hough (1854-1919) who also worked as a medical doctor, and they had four children together.
