Raleigh Camp was elected Captain of Company B, 7th Regiment, Texas Infantry on 2 October 1861. He then became Major of the 40th Georgia Infantry Regiment, March 19, 1862, and moved on to become acting Inspector General in 1863. Captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi, July 4, 1863, he was then paroled July 6, 1863. On May 23, 1864, Raleigh Camp was furloughed from the Floyd House Hospital in Macon, Georgia, after being there forty-five days suffering from a wound in his left arm. Thomas Lumpkin Camp enlisted as a private in Company O, Phillips' Legion, Georgia Infantry, May 6, 1862. He then transferred to Company K, 40th Georgia Infantry Regiment, January 19, 1863, and was elected second lieutenant April 4, 1863. Thomas Camp resigned April 13, 1865.
