Barlow grew up in California. She was a student at Brigham Young University studying American Studies and English. Barlow hoped to become a high school teacher of American history or English. She enjoyed swing dancing and oil painting. Barlow had several friends serving missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she completed this project.
