Denton was a resident of Aurora, Dearborn County, Ind. During the Civil War he served with the 14th U.S. Army Corps, 3rd Battery, 3rd Division. After the war he married Martha A. Cole, published the DEARBORN INDEPENDENT newspaper, and served as postmaster for Aurora.
