CURRENT FUNCTIONS. The Commission licenses boxers, wrestlers, and other participants (managers, trainers, promoters, judges, referees, venue employees, etc.) in these sports, oversees boxing and wrestling matches held in new York, and collects taxes on admission tickets and other revenue sources for those events. The Commission Consists of there members appointed by the Governor, one of who is designated Chairman.

ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY. The State Athletic Commission was establish by Chapter 714, Laws of 1921 as a continuation of the State Boxing Commission, which was formed the previous year.
