The Twin City Home and Community Section (TCHC) is a section of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and its state affiliate, the Minnesota Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. The American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences includes "professional sections" as well as state affiliates. The home and community sections are made up of community volunteers, full-time homemakers, freelance or part-time employees, and retired professional who work to strengthen the profession within the community.
In 1938, seven women officially established TCHC, as the Twin City Home and Economists in Homemaking, although a "homemakers section" of the Minnesota Home Economics Association (the former name of the Minnesota Association of Family and Consumer Sciences) had already been functioning for two decades. The Twin City Home Economists in Homemaking changed their name to the Twin City Home and Community Section in 1995.
One of TCHC's leading programs from the 1970s through the 1990s was development and sales of two cookbooks, Cooking in Minnesota and More Cooking in Minnesota . Proceeds were invested, and the funds were used to support student scholarships, grants, and research in home economics or human ecology. Many University of Minnesota students benefitted from the scholarships. The presence of the University of Minnesota has provided members for TCHC (who were commonly alumni of the university and members of other organizations, such as Phi Upsilon Omicron) as well as opportunities for members to include faculty as speakers in the group's programming.
