Sigma Tau Gamma is a national college fraternity founded in 1920 by veterans of the First World War. Founded as a society of men who endeavor to promote the highest ideals of manhood, brotherhood and citizenship, its members dedicate themselves to a set of six Principles: Value, Learning, Leadership, Excellence, Benefit, Integrity. More than 75,000 men have been initiated into the Fraternity at 135 chapters. The Fraternity's executive offices are located in the Marvin Millsap Headquarters Building, located on the Fraternity founding site in Warrensburg, Missouri.

The Gamma Chi Chapter of Michigan Tech was established as a social fraternity to enhance social and intellectual maturity; promote a successful scholastic, as well as a desirable social, environment. It is a nationally affiliated chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma. Their house is located at 1020 College Avenue, Houghton, Michigan.
