Académie des sciences (France).
The Commission de la défense nationale de l'Académie des Sciences was created in 1914 in order to give an impluse to scientific research of interest to the war effort, and to examine proposition submitted by the Ministry of War. It was divided in several subcommissions : in 1914, Mechanics (including Aviation), Wireless Telegraphy, Radiography, Chemistry (including Explosives), Medicine, Surgery, Hygiene, and Nutrition; in 1915 : Mechanics, Physics, Chemistry and Health.
