Viktor Suchy (1912-1997), who was a friend of Klarmann, was the editor of the journal Wissenschaft und Weltbild, based in Vienna, from 1948 to 1954; editor-in-chief of the publishing company Stiasny Verlag, in Graz, from 1957 to 1964; and, in 1965, the founder of the Dokumentationsstelle für neuere Österreichische Literatur, in Vienna, for which he served as secretary general until 1978. Stiasny Verlag was the publisher of Das Reich der Mitte (1961), a volume of selected prose and poetry by Franz Werfel, edited and introduced by Klarmann. Arnold was the author of a scholarly book on Werfel which Stiasny Verlag wished to published but for which it failed to receive the necessary subsidy from the Austrian Ministry for Education. Kraus was the founder and head of the Österreichische Gesellschaft für Literatur; and made a proposal to the Stiasny Verlag about a book of essays by Klarmann.
