Springfield, Illinois labor union formed December 1957 by the merger of the Springfield Federation of Labor (AFL) and the Springfield Industrial Council (CIO). The first president was Francis Durkin, formerly president of the local AFL union. Frank England, former president of the local CIO union, was the first vice president. Approximately 10,000 members when first formed.
