Gladys Maeva Cumpston was the wife of J.H.L. Cumpston (1880-1954), historian, writer, and Australia's first Federal Director of Health. In 1949-1950 Mrs Cumpston wrote an account of her journey to and time spent in Ceylon, entitled 'Other customs, other ways'. Later in 1950 Mrs Cumpston wrote a diary account of an ABC re-enactment of Charles Sturt's voyage to find the mouth of the Murray River.
