Major divisions of the Province of South Carolina took place in 1682 when the province was divided into Berkeley, Craven, and Colleton Counties; and under an Act of Assembly of 1706 when the province was divided into ten parishes. In 1734 the Parish of Prince Frederick was created from a portion of Prince George Winyah (originally established in 1721).
