Lockwood, John C., 1857-1928.

In the 1860s and 1870s John C. Lockwood worked as a cattle driver, gold miner in the Black Hills, and stagecoach driver. He also served with the U.S. 7th Cavalry regiment. In later life, Lockwood became very interested in military pensions and support for war veterans; he was adjutant of the National Indian War Veterans. Lockwood is the subject of the book Custer fell first: the adventures of John C. Lockwood, edited by J. C. Ryan (1966).
