Fort Worth and Denver City Railway Company
Variant namesChartered by the Texas Legislature on May 26, 1873, to build from Fort Worth to the Texas-New Mexico State line and connect with a line to Denver, Colorado. Came under control of General Grenville Dodge in 1881 and began construction that year. First rail line to cross the Texas Panhandle. Served area hauling cattle from the ranches to market. Later branch lines were built across the South Plains, including one to Lubbock, Texas, in 1928, to tap the cotton market.

The Fort Worth and Denver City Railway Company was incorporated in Texas for the purpose of operating a rail line from Fort Worth, Texas, northwest to the New Mexico border. The company was controlled by the Colorado and Southern Railway Company.
