Historian, professor of American history.

Whitney Cross studied under Arthur Schlesinger, Sr. at Harvard University for his Ph.D., which he received in 1945. He taught at Smith College, the University of Rochester, Cornell University, and West Virginia University, and was the first curator of the Cornell University Collection of Regional History, later the Department of Manuscripts and University Archives.
