The original Charter of the City of New York was sealed with the seal of the Province on January 15, 1730, and stated that it was to be recorded in the provincial secretary's office. The provincial government confirmed the charter by law on October 14, 1732. The charter was also known as the Montgomery Charter after John Montgomery, provincial governor of the time the charter was granted. The original charter is located in New York City.
