Beaufort, South Carolina merchant, shipbuilder, and plantation owner. John Mark Verdier (b. 1759) was the Beaufort agent for the Charleston (S.C.) mercantile firm of Smiths, DeSaussure & Darrell, which was associated with the London firm of Bird, Savage & Bird. He was the son of merchant Andrew (or Andre) Verdier (d. 1766), a colonist who arrived in South Carolina in 1732.
