Chace was a photographer in Fort Payne, DeKalb County, Ala. in the late 1800s. Three of the images in this collection are stamped with the name of his studio. This collection was donated to the Alabama Department of Archives and History by Margaret Simmonds who said that the photographs were taken by her uncle who lived in Fort Payne for a short time in the 1880s. It is not known for certain whether or not Simmonds' uncle was Chace.
