Leroy M. Hittle was born on June 10, 1912. He became an Associated Press correspondent that lived and worked in Olympia, WA. He became the head of the AP's Olympia Bureau about 1946. He served in that capacity for about 21 years. Governor Dan Evans appointed Hittle to the State Liquor Board in 1967 and Hittle continued to serve under two succesive administrations. He retired as chairman of the Liquor Contorl Board in 1982. In 1993 he suffered a stroke while at his winter home in Palm Desert, CA. His family brought him back to Olympia, WA where he passed away on Nov. 10, 1993.
