Cuyler, W. Kenneth, 1900-

W. Kenneth Cuyler joined the Endocrine Division of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Duke University Medical Center in 1938. After World War II, Cuyler studied at Cornell University under George Papanicolaou, who invented the vaginal (Pap) smear used to detect diseases in of the female reproductive system. After this training, Cuyler established the Genital Cytology Laboratory at Duke. Studies conducted in this laboratory helped to diagnose and treat women with pre-invasive cancer of the cervix.
