Robert E. Gregg was a professor of Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and published "The Ants of Colorado" in 1963, printed by the University of Colorado Press. In 1969, with John T. Browne, he authored "A Study of the Ecological Distribution of Ants in Gregory Canyon, Boulder, Colorado," also printed by the University of Colorado Press. Gregg's thesis states that Colorado ants fit into the biotic zones and the life zones of the Merriam. The concept of life zones describes areas with similar communities of plants and animals.
