May, W. (William), b. 1885.
A member of the 60th Infantry Brigade, A.M.F., prior to the war, May enlisted on 16 Apr. 1915 as a quartermaster and honorary lieutenant in the 7th Battalion. He was promoted to quartermaster and honorary captain on 1 Nov. 1916, then to captain; his ultimate unit was the 59th Battalion. May was awarded the Military Cross; and was demobilised on 7 May 1920. Although initially in the 7th Battalion, he belonged to the 22nd Battalion at the time of embarkation for overseas service in May 1915, and was also attached to the 15th Brigade and 5th Division Headquarters at different times during the course of the war.
