Philip Schrader was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Continental Army and commanded the Continental German Battalion in 1776, under Col. Nicholas Haussegger. This battlion was raised from German settlers from Pennsylvania and Maryland. It was comprised of four companies from each state and was the first to be enlisted for three years. Col. Baron de Arendt took over the command in March 1777 and held it until January 1781, when the battlion was broken up.
