Howard, Nathaniel R.
Nathaniel R. Howard (1898-1980), was an editor for both the Cleveland News as well as the Plain Dealer . Howard started his career writing for his high school paper in Oberlin, Ohio. During college he did reporting for both the Cleveland News and the Plain Dealer . In 1926 he was promoted to city editor of the Plain Dealer . In 1929 he advanced to night editor and he moved into the position of permanent managing editor in 1930. During the years of 1941-1943 he worked in the United States Office of Censorship where he monitored compliance to the federal censorship code in effect during the war. He worked as editor for the Cleveland News until the paper was disbanded in 1956. He retired in 1963 as a contributing editor for the Plain Dealer.
