Bromby, J. E. (John Edward), 1809-1899
John Edward Bromby (1809-1899) was a clergyman, schoolmaster and public lecturer. This collection of his papers relates mainly to his life in Melbourne, and at Melbourne Church of England Grammar School during his headmastership (1856-1874).

J. E. Bromby an ordained priest, was the first headmaster of Melbourne Church of England Grammar School, arriving in Melbourne from England in 1858. He gave many public lectures on religion and science and championed the right of women to enter university.
