The Phoenix/Chimes Women's Honorary existed at Ohio University from 1930-1967(?) and promoted leadership, service, and scholarship.
The Phoenix/Chimes Junior Women's Honorary was a women's student organization that operated from 1930 to 1967(?). The organization began on Dec. 20, 1930 as the Phoenix Senior Women's Honorary. It wasn't until 1936 that a constitution was created and secretaries began to write the minutes of the organization. At this time, Phoenix became a junior women's honorary. The organization's main activities were related to campus involvement and volunteer work, though it promoted scholarship and often held social functions. At this time, Phoenix was quite exclusive: only ten active members were allowed by the 1936 constitution. On Nov. 12, 1950, Phoenix was inducted into the Chimes National Junior Women's Honorary and became the Ohio University chapter. However, it wasn't until August of 1952 that a new constitution was written. The organization continued to promote scholarship, leadership, and service. Chimes of OU left no records after 1967 and may have gone defunct after that year.
