Hannon, Moses Wright b.1827.
Moses Wright Hannon was born in 1827 in Baldwin County, Ga. Hannon moved to Montgomery, Ala. in 1847. In 1850 he went to California where he stayed eight years before returning to Montgomery. In 1861 he entered military service as Lieutenant Colonel of the 1st Ala. Cavalry. A few.
months later he recruited the 53rd Alabama, a mounted regiment. He served with this command under Roddy and Forrest in the Tennessee Valley region. Hannon was later placed in command of a brigade including his old regiment. He led this command for the last year and a half of the war, through the Georgia campaign under General Wheeler and in General Kelly's Division. Hannon was promoted to brigadier general but he never received his commission. Following the war, he returned to Montgomery, but eventually moved to Texas.
